Senior Moves and Estate Shipping: Questions and Answers.

Last year over 50,000 families called upon the services of a certified Senior Move Manager.  And that’s just a portion of the total number of senior moves annually in America. With about 13% of the population now over the age of 65, the growth in senior moves and estate shipping is not surprising.

With 21 years of experience under our belts, we’ve become well aware of the questions that cause so much concern when it’s time for seniors to downsize, or for families to distribute the treasured memories of their parents. For starters, just the thought of trying to manage all of the logistics involved in the process can seem overwhelming.

The first question is, “How are we going to get all of this out of here?”  Another question is, “We have relatives all over the country who each want something, how do we do that?”  Lastly, “Look at this, it’s an antique and it’s beautiful, but it’s so fragile how could it ever survive shipping?”

It didn’t take long for us to realize that what is really needed to support senior moves and estate shipping is a one-stop resource that can take care of all the details and answer the questions before they’re even asked. That’s why Craters & Freighters has become America’s Estate Shipping Specialist.

The first thing we do to help relieve stress is separate and organize the various items within an estate, categorize them, and then identify what needs to go where. In some cases we ship everything one place; in other cases to multiple places. It’s actually not uncommon for us to ship estate pieces all over the world.

Once we explain that every piece of furniture or art, every heirloom or fragile treasure will be professionally packed according to its fragility as well as to how it will be transported, there is even greater relief. We, of course, will custom build a crate for each piece that requires that level of security for safe travel.

It quickly becomes obvious we have all the answers. But what people are most looking for comes down to respect. They want to know that the people they’ve entrusted their lifetime treasures to respect how irreplaceable those treasures are, and respect how traumatic a major move can be. That respect is part of our brand and our culture, and I believe has as much to do with our success as the expertise we offer.
